Play therapy is beneficial for children aged 3-10 years. The modality allows children to work through feelings, thoughts and challenges and learn a variety of skills.
We offer a range of play therapy modalities for children and families depending on your needs.
Play Therapy benefits children who:
have experienced a sudden, stressful or traumatic event or are living in difficult circumstances
find it hard to express what they’re thinking, feeling or regulating their emotions
may be too young or may not engage in talk based therapy
feel overwhelmed, anxious, have low mood or low self esteem
are experiencing grief and loss
are Autistic, have ADHD or Developmental Delay
are non-speaking or experience barriers to expressing their thoughts and feelings
In Child Centred Play Therapy, Interplay and Filial Therapy children are invited into the playroom where they are invited to use purposefully selected toys and creative resources. They are given the freedom to use these play based resources in ways that mean most to them. This invitation sets the tone of the space and of the therapeutic relationship.
From here children can use the play based resources to play out various themes. These themes can include: safety and protection, nurturing, rescue play, good guy vs bad guy, death and destruction play, relationship and connection play or sneaking and trickery play. These themes and feelings that are expressed as they play become glimpses of your child’s story or vulnerabilities within the parent-child attachment relationship.
As sessions progress children build their skills to express their thoughts, feelings and emotions safely, build their skills in regulation, build their independace and confidence within themselves as they find solutions or master their own unique challenges.
